In 2008 Robert Morgan approached 5 time Tony Award winning costume designer, William Ivey Long to design the second bar project to be based on classic Manhattan pubs of yesteryear. Chumley’s, Molly’s Sheeban and the countless pubs that dot the hills of Scotland provided the theme and interior feel that Shoolbred’s looked to re-create. The interior of a historic Massachusetts church (where The Church Group takes it’s name) was salvaged, trucked to New York City and reassembled in its new form as a bar. Mr. Long’s passion as a restorer of historic period homes, not to mention his family’s Scottish roots, was a perfect fit for the project. Shoolbred’s has established itself as a cozy East Village neighborhood staple.
